Just in case you haven’t seen it, I was one of three librarians featured in the current issue of Scholastic Administrator (http://www.scholastic.com/administrator/may06/articles.asp?article=Library).
It was nice to be able to represent our mission (and my passion) in a non-library publication and to try to define a vision for emerging library service to adminstrators who, unlike my own and perhaps many of yours, have not really seen a functioning program in their professional experience.
This stuff shouldn’t be surprising. But it seems we have so much work to do! I don’t remember ever “studiously stamping and shelving hardcovers” or “stopping only to shush a group of rowdy students.”
Thanks to author, Matt Bolch and to Scholastic for shining a light on teacher-librarians and library programs.
